How do I stop Emacs from failing when the executable is stripped?

Don't do that.

This problem has been reported on SGI Indigo machines running Irix 4.0.* and RS/6000 machines. Scott Henry <scotth@hoshi.corp.SGi.COM> posted a patch that fixes the problem for Irix.
